I know its just me, but...

Kelli, I may have mentioned, is writing Lifeway Sunday school curriculum for Nov. 2K4. I'm doing a preliminary edit for it. She "names" the kindergartners in her instructions, like, "Have Jamie glue the pieces together..."

This is good, except all the kiddies are people I know, and most often are not 5.

For example, Jamie is my 34 year old brother.

And I have the image of the adults attempting to accomplish the tasks set forth for them in her instructions.

This makes my prelim edit much more challenging, due to the mental distractions.

an observation

I'm sure I'm not the first to note this, but I'm of the opinion that the worst acronym is for the World Health Organization.

These are two recent headlines, to illustrate the problem (provided by WSJ BOTW):

No, WHO

Response to SARS Concerns the WHO
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones are not surprisingly more worried about kidney blockage.

I'd sure enjoy hearing this announcement over my airwave intercom (note: flash presentation)

except it would mean that I was over Arizona, rather than Colorado.

I pledge allegiance

newsmax reports that the Christian right is considering bolting from the Republican party in '04. I am a Christ follower. I am politically "to the right." I will not be leaving the Republican party in '04. I can only hope this is a duped article to give those who lean to the left false optimism. Why would we abandon the Republican party and accordingly ensure the return of a liberal president to the White House?

The main beef apparently is the lack of Repub support for Rick Santorum. I agree with him, and am disappointed more of our political brethren haven't held him up. But I'm not jumping off the platform over the issue.

I couldn't be more proud

for those who think I should report on my girls more...

just talked with Kelli, who was on her way to school to give Kaylyn new pants and underpants.

apparently, my sweet little darlin' sprung a leak from laughing too hard.

UPDATE: the leak turned out to be only a couple of drops. Kaylyn was too afraid to even look, once she became aware of her retentions system failure.

signs of the impending apocalypse #40

according to Holy Weblog (which officially went on hiatus on May 4), a hunky calendar of 12 Catholic priests is being made available.

It is not an official papal document, endorsed by the Holy Mother Church (whatever that means)
It is a nice device for all those fetish-minded people who needed just one more weapon to give in to the carnal desires of their minds.

must see

once again, cox & forkum have created a masterpiece, this time a commentary on the devilishness of the swarthy imp known as Arafat. Go look at it.

and by the way, if you aren't on Israel's side on this issue, you're on the wrong side.

Added to my blog roll is Hades College, where Mick attempts a CS Lewis-like approach to understanding the enemy. I've added him to the roll so we can assess the effort. It's good so far.

hello david

NAMB trustees are in the office this week. I just went down to floor 1 from my office in scenic floor 4 to fill a cup with the steaming cafe'-bean extract beverage. Upon turning a corner, I almost literally ran into a trustee who looks EXACTLY like Dave Letterman's mom. I did a double take -- one of those gestures that means I'm trying to reconcile what I'm seeing with some hidden knowledge in my brain, but looks like I'm a participant in NAMB's program to employ the mentally challenged -- and she just gave me this very frightened stare, like I'm the slow-witted guy from of mice and men.

the editor is in

the office today.

Sean has hurt his back, so please remember him in your petitions today. I've got a magazine that's supposed to be ready by Friday. So remember me in your petitions today.

EPA update

I've been at the evangelical press association yesterday & today, it concludes tomorrow. Yesterday was an awesome day. Sat in on a session led by Michael Card. It was supposed to be about creativity, but it was more a stream-of-consciousness discussion on much more than that. It was very enjoyable.

Then I went to an "editing" session, but it turned out to be about individual quiet time. It was good, but didn't scratch where I was itching, professionally speaking. It was definitely beneficial for my personal development, so I can't gripe too loudly (notice that I didn't use any CAPS).

Today's sessions were...interesting. The first session, which shall remain nameless to protect the guilty, was about the most useless session I've ever attended. The speaker needed much more practice. And the content that was promised was not delivered. Oh well.

The second session was much better. it was a 'panel discussion' on when bad writing happens to good editors. Aside from the pretentiously smug title of the session, it was pretty good. had the editors from Christianity Today, Moody, Discipleship Journal, On Mission, Baptist Press, and one other.

As always with these types of events, one of the coolest things is all the freebies. I got the latest FFH CD. Three or four books that are newly published. And about 200 magazines from virtually every evangelical publication. I'm trying to whittle some of that down, and look to keep just the stuff that impresses me.

The highlight of the whole event (so far) came yesterday at lunch when Michael Card gave a six song concert, and then dramatist Tom Key (the man behind The Cotton Patch Gospel) did a variety of monologues from TCPG to The Screwtape Letters to Revelation.

We return tomorrow for the final day, unless Atlanta gets swept away in a torrent of rain.

everybody play twister!

just got in to the NAMB building. waiting for a proof of the mag to work on. we drove in from the EPA which was over on the south side of town (we're up north) to find our 400 employees in the basement. We've a tornado warning that took place. I'm guessing the Rockies/Braves game is awash.

on a good note, I'm about to be checked out a laptop, which means my evenings will be more productive!
